Do make sure that you don't be in a hurry while testing out an application. Stick and spend more time on all the modules before you begin testing with it.

Using of Automation Tool:
Automation generally does not turn out to work if there are any frequent changes that are going on, and it really turns out to be difficult if you have to change the script for every new change. So the more practices of automation will help you test your application really in a quick and a better manner.
If you are unable to understand any kind of an application or a module then you can never ever test an application. So try and find all the dependencies of the modules to the other modules, and then test a plan according to it. You will have to figure out if there are any kind of changes that are made within the module, and where all it can be made perfect.
Making assumptions is the great weakness of a tester so make sure you do not assume things. I do have come across many people who make assumptions, and its common enough that they assume about the features and the test leading to the application failure. Do not assume that if you are doing a mistake then you are going to be in a trouble. So don't hesitate and ask if you have any doubt than assumptions. So think before you go ahead any bug what the priority could turn out to be and how important the bug is.
End-users' Concerns:
Make a list of issues reported that the end users and think what is got missed by you. This is something that is really very important. In one short of time or just few round of testing cant assure applications that are completely free. Testing is something that should not be done by one specific person. When you are releasing the beta version then there are specific applications that are tested by the end users. So the deal here is when the application goes to many hands each and every one will turn out to have their own perspectives. So make sure that you have your own checklist and note down all the issues reported by the end users, and I bet if you test the application you will be able to concentrate on the issues reported by the end of the users you will more closer to deliver perfect build.
